Rupert Grint is making a significant return to the iconic role of Ron Weasley, this time on Broadway in the production of “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.” This marks his return to the character over a decade after the last Harry Potter film was released. Grint will grace the Broadway stage for a 17-week engagement starting in February 2027, bringing back the beloved character he played alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson across all eight films.
Expressing his excitement, Grint shared that Ron Weasley has been a part of his life since he was 11 years old. He finds the opportunity to revisit the character at this stage particularly compelling, especially since both he and Ron are now portrayed as fathers, adding layers of both nostalgia and novelty to the experience.
The announcement of Grint’s return follows a similar move by Tom Felton, who recently took on his film role as Draco Malfoy in the same Broadway production. Felton’s performance is set to continue through January, adding to the show’s dynamic casting choices.
“Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” originally premiered in London in 2016 and has since captivated audiences worldwide, with over 14 million tickets sold across various international productions. The New York rendition alone has amassed more than $532 million in revenue, underscoring its enduring popularity.
Grint’s Broadway experience began in 2014 with the comedy “It’s Only a Play.” Since then, he has expanded his acting portfolio with roles in “Knock at the Cabin,” “Charlie Countryman,” and “Nightborn.” His return to the magical world of Harry Potter coincides with the development of a new television series for HBO, aimed at introducing the enchanting saga to a fresh generation of fans.
