In a significant move to bolster bilateral ties, Vietnam and Japan have reiterated their dedication to enhancing cooperation between their ruling parties and legislative bodies. This commitment was emphasized during discussions in Hanoi between Nguyễn Duy Ngọc, a senior official of the Communist Party of Vietnam, and Hagiuda Koichi, Executive Acting Secretary-General of Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

The talks underscored the ongoing expansion of the Vietnam–Japan Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both parties agreed to intensify political dialogue and parliamentary exchanges, building on the momentum from Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s visit to Vietnam earlier this year. This visit has laid a strong foundation for further collaborative efforts.

Nguyễn Duy Ngọc praised Vietnam’s robust economic performance and ongoing administrative reforms. He proposed that Japan could aid Vietnam by sharing its expertise in local governance and decentralization, which would be instrumental in advancing Vietnam’s institutional development. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of broadening cooperation in key areas such as human resource development, digital transformation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, green transition, economic security, and quantum technology.

Further highlighting the potential for collaboration, Nguyễn Duy Ngọc advocated for stronger ties between the parliamentary friendship groups of both nations and encouraged more exchanges involving young lawmakers. The Vietnamese side also expressed a desire for Japan to continue supporting the Vietnamese community residing in Japan. Additionally, they proposed simplifying visa procedures, with a long-term vision of achieving visa-free travel for Vietnamese citizens.

Hagiuda Koichi affirmed Japan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation. He assured that the Liberal Democratic Party and the Japanese parliament would persist in promoting exchanges and joint initiatives, particularly in the realms of advanced technologies, digital innovation, and green energy. This mutual dedication to collaboration marks a promising chapter in Vietnam-Japan relations, with both nations poised to benefit from shared experiences and joint ventures.
